Overview of Kabalikat Civicom, Inc.

Kabalikat Civicom or simply known as KABALIKAT is presently the largest group of responsible and active radio communicators engaged in public assistance particularly during disasters and natural calamities or whenever there is need to ensure public comfort and convenience. Kabalikat utilizes all means of communication system from among the members. It is a non-stock, nonprofit organization whose noblest motivates the public welfare. Kabalikat has almost 700 chartered groups nationwide.

It was organized and conceived in December 1990 to primarily raise the status of communicators to a position of high quality responsibility and importance and to enable radio enthusiasts to actively participate in public assistance particularly during calamities and emergencies or whenever there is a need to ensure public comfort and convenience.

To be a Kabalikat is to devote oneself utterly to a set of moral principles, its code of ethical standards, values and adherence to service credo as a way of life. Therefore, to be a Kabalikat, one must learn to care and serve for the welfare of others and give the best what we can so that others may live. Serving others especially those in need is serving God. This is the true meaning of life of every Kabalikat.

The object of Kabalikat Civicom is to diffuse the light of civilization and make known to all the needy of worthy sentiments, cultured manners affability and untrammeled intelligence in all actions. Kabalikat Civicom is not a mutual aid society, It is a mutual protection forms part of its program: every Kabalikat is obliged to protect his brethren and to strive for the brotherhood of man, the duties of man are twofold: duties towards his Creator and duties towards humanity. The different which cultivate and strive to perfect is not that between man and God but that between man and humanity.

BACKGROUND

The Kabalikat Civicom is an active group of community communicators engaged in public assistance, particularly during disasters and natural calamities or whenever there is need to ensure public comport and convenience. The Kabalikat Civicom is registered and authorized by the National Telecommunications Commission to operate several base and mobile, portable radios to communicate with duly authorized stations nationwide. The Kabalikat Civicom has been granted NTC authorized network license number 58489, stations callsign 4DW-656, class FB-0366-95. The Kabalikat Civicom is a developmental communication group of the DZRH radio news, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, RPN channel 9, IBC channel 13, and other radio and television networks nationwide. As Corruption Prevention Unit of the Ombudsman, the Kabalikat Civicom is also accredited in various government agencies. Thus, the organization originally conceived as a mere responsible civic communication body, has now grown into today's nationwide Kabalikat Civicom--- to serve as link to the complex network of active communication efforts geared towards nation building.
 
First concieved and organized by Gil R. de la Torre in the early 90’s when modulation on community bands have been fragmented and without direction, with most frequencies so occupied with unnecessary modulations or stymied by jammers that when the need calls for immediate radio assistance for relay of urgent messages, the responsible communicator when available, could hardly cope with the exigency. Sadly most of the time, he was unavailable. To help remedy the situation, some responsible communicators banded themselves into a developmental radio group that is truly responsive to the need of the community: The Kabalikat Civicom Association, Incorporated.

This group subsequently developed into a nationwide communication network of civic volunteers, became a PRIME MOVER that immediately, or at the soonest time possible, responded to any exigencies or emergencies that arose. Registered and authorized by the National Telecommunications Commission to operate several base, mobile and portable radios nationwide, Kabalikat Civicom is a developmental communication group of DZRH Radio News and several radio and television networks nationwide. Kabalikat Civicom is accredited communication group of several government agencies: the PNP-HPG, MMDA, DILG and many others.
